The Newark Police Department says a shooting left a 6-year-old girl and two adults injured.
The shooting happened on South Orange Avenue Tuesday evening.
Details about the shooting are limited, but the child was rushed to University Hospital by a police officer in a cruiser.
A woman was seen jumping out of the police vehicle screaming at police to save her child as everyone rushed into the emergency room.
“That's an ongoing investigation. The 6-year-old was not killed. She's in the hospital recovering. She had a collapsed lung. She's going to make it,” says Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Frage.
The condition of the two adults was not immediately known. It was also not clear if any arrests have been made.
It was a violent day in Newark. Several hours before this shooting, Newark police were investigating a separate shooting that left two Newark police officers injured. The suspect in that case remains on the loose.
