Gov. Phil Murphy urged all New Jersey residents to remain inside their homes as a blizzard tears through the state.
“Stay strong, stay home, use common sense,” Murphy said.
The governor declared a state of emergency for New Jersey on Sunday ahead of the storm. More than 2 feet of snow is expected to cover parts of New Jersey by the time the storm passes by.
All state offices were closed, including all six of New Jersey’s mega COVID-19 vaccination sites.
Murphy says that all state residents should remain indoors and off the state’s roadways as much as possible.
The New Jersey State Police have responded to more than 660 vehicle crashes and more than 1,050 requests for motorist aid since 6 p.m. Sunday.
Commercial traffic has been banned on state roadways for the time being.
Murphy says that the state Department of Transportation has around 4,000 snowplows out on the roads to clear away the snow.
News 12 New Jersey meteorologists say that the storm is expected to last into Tuesday.
