Plainfield tax preparer sentenced to 30 months in prison for fraud, witness tampering

A tax preparer from Plainfield was sentenced to 30 months in prison in Newark federal court for defrauding the IRS, falsifying his tax returns and witness tampering.
Samuel Davis was an active detective sergeant with state police while he owned and operated a tax preparation business.
Davis retired three years ago after 28 years with the department.
As part of his sentence, he also received three years of supervised release, a $10,000 fine and must pay restitution of $72,000.
