First responders have rescued a pilot who was stuck inside his plane following a crash outside a Somerset County airport.
Authorities say that the single-engine Cessna 172K plane crashed just outside of Central Jersey Regional Airport around 12 p.m. Tuesday. The plane became entangled in the trees along the Millstone River on the Manville and Hillsborough border.
The pilot was not hurt, but was stuck inside the plane for several hours while crews worked to get him down. The plane was about 70 feet off the ground and was leaking fuel during the rescue.
The pilot was not identified and it was unclear where he was coming from prior to the crash.
The plane is registered to RTD Aviation LLC, which is based out of Hillsborough.
