New Jerseyans who wish to avoid the mall during busy shopping times can now have someone else do it for them thanks to a new smartphone app.
“Shupperz” is a global personal shopping app that started in Israel this fall and launched at the Mills at Jersey Gardens mall in Elizabeth this week.
“We understand that shopping is a talent and it’s a talent worth sharing,” says co-founder Tal Rubinstein.
Rubinstein, an attorney, started the app with an accountant friend. Both travel around the world for business and are often asked to pick up items for friends while overseas.
“One time we joked that we were like the Uber of shopping…just pay us for shopping for you instead of driving you around New York,” she says.
Local Shupperz can work one on one with users to get the items that they need. They can also upload local deals to the app in real time.
“Someone who saw my window immediately chatting with me and said, ‘Hey, can you get me this please,’” Rubinstein says while showing News 12 New Jersey how the app works.
Retailers say that they like the idea of the app because it brings business back to brick-and-mortar stores.
Rubinstein says that the app should also launch in the U.K., Germany and Australia soon.
