(05/31/06) HAMILTON ? A marketing tactic aimed at New Jersey residents by a Pennsylvania fireworks company has lit an explosive interstate controversy.
Workers at the soon-to-be-open Sky King Fireworks in Morrisville, Pennsylvania, have sent advertising mailers to nearby residents in New Jersey. For some Garden State residents, a trip to the Keystone State for illegal fireworks would take just minutes. Although Pennsylvania law bans the sale of fireworks to in-state residents, it is perfectly legal for Sky King to sell the items to individuals with an out-of-state license.
Some residents feel Sky King Fireworks will increase the potential for personal injuries and fires in New Jersey. Others, who refused to appear on camera, say they will be purchasing fireworks from the store. Representatives of Sky King claim they are simply operating within the legal boundaries of Pennsylvania law. Fireworks are illegal to buy and use in New Jersey.
