Pedestrian struck by vehicle after fleeing ICE agents in Point Pleasant Beach
Local police say they were not involved in the immigration enforcement operation and responded only to the crash.

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle Friday morning after fleeing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Point Pleasant Beach, according to local police.
The crash happened at about 9:05 a.m. on Route 35 North near the west side train station platform, the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department said.
Police said the pedestrian ran into the roadway while fleeing ICE agents who were attempting to apprehend him. He was struck by a passing vehicle and suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The pedestrian was treated at the scene and taken to a local hospital by the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad for further evaluation and treatment.
The Point Pleasant Beach Police Department said it had no involvement in the ICE operation and was not notified in advance that immigration enforcement activity was taking place in the borough. Officers said they became aware of the situation only after being dispatched to investigate the crash.
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office was notified of the incident. ICE did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
"Right here in Point Pleasant Beach this morning, an illegal invader tried fleeing from ICE and wound up getting hit by a vehicle on Route 35, endangering local drivers while doing so," said Assemblyman Paul Kanitra in a statement on social media. "If you have broken our laws and came here without permission, it’s time to accept that you’re going home."
