Pedestrian hit, killed while walking across highway to catch bus ID’d

Police in Carlstadt have identified the pedestrian who was hit and killed while walking across a busy highway to catch a bus.
It happened Saturday around 6:45 a.m.
The victim has been identified as Abdul Ahad, 55, of Paterson. Ahad had worked at the Valero gas station at 300 Washington Ave. for several years and had just gotten off his shift. According to police, he was about to board a stopped NJ Transit bus when a Dodge Charger hit him while trying to pass.
Officials say the victim walked against the signal when a driver traveling north, who had the right of way, hit him. Police say he died at the scene.
The driver is cooperating with police and so far, no charges have been filed.
Police are investigating if foggy conditions played a role in the accident.
