One of the best words to describe Lucie is resilient. The energetic 1-year-old mixed breed first arrived at Associated Humane Societies in Forked River, she was heartworm positive. Now healthy and happy, she's ready for a new start.

"Lucie is a happy, affectionate girl who, despite her rough start, always has a wagging tail and a bright spirit," according to AHS Forked River.

Ideally, Lucie would benefit from a home where she's the only pet. She'd also do well in a home with older children who "respect her space," according to AHS.

Volunteers at the shelter say Lucie loves to play, run and explore and would thrive with a family willing to give her plenty of exercise and attention. She's described as loving, loyal, affectionate and she loves to be the center of attention.
