Paterson Great Falls National Historic Park is getting a
makeover.
The city is spending nearly $8 million for a 2.5-acre
expansion that includes a Passaic River walkway.
Some of the funding for the project will come from the
National Parks Service and Green Acres Open Space program.
Darren Boch, the superintendent at Great Falls, says the
vision for the finalized plan came about in 2016.
“We laid out a vision…that the national park will be a
place where all people can be inspired by the natural wonder of the Great
Falls, the Passaic River and the stories of the nation's first planned city of
industry and innovation,” he said. "I believe we are way ahead of where
anyone thought we'd be at this point in 2022."
The groundbreaking for the river walk is next month.
