Among the contestants auditioning for this season of “American Idol” is a 23-year-old from Paterson, who’s no stranger to the world’s biggest singing competitions.

We Ani’s Idol journey is set to begin with her audition episode this Sunday.

"You guys are going to be seeing me being nervous -- me getting ready to get up there and show them everything that I possibly can to leave it all out on the table … that's all I can give you guys without spoiling it,” she says.

You might remember her as We McDonald, who, at 17, came in third place on season 11 of “The Voice.” Now she’s 23 and putting out her own music.

“My parents have worked really hard -- they sacrificed so much for me so I want to make sure I can give that back to them. And I feel like this would be the first step in that,” says Ani.

Ani lives with her family in Paterson, and her dad went with her to the auditioning. 

She says “The Voice” provided a certain amount of success, but she’s ready to see where this next journey could take her.
