Members of the Paterson community are fighting to keep a new gentleman's club from opening in place of the now defunct "Charlie's Angels Gentleman's Club."
The old strip club, located at 26-30 Robert St., shut down a few years ago. The owner of the building insists he must allow a new club called 'Eye Candy' to open in its place in order to pay his bills.
The street the building is located on was the scene of a National Guardsman's murder last month, and neighbors often complained of drugs, booze and loud music when the gentleman's club was in operation. Some fear reopening an exotic club could bring more riff-raff into the already dangerous community.
"It's gonna attract the wrong type of people, and it's just gonna make matters worse," says Paterson City Councilman Andre Savagh.
The councilman and Rev. Howard Sterling have started a petition to keep the club shut down. The two will go before the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board with it next month, when a decision will be made on Eye Candy's liquor license.
