A house fire in Paterson on Wednesday morning damaged multiple homes in the city and displaced dozens of people.
The fire started on Elm Street during the overnight hours. Officials say that the fire started in one home and then spread to two nearby homes.
No major injuries were reported. Mayor Andre Sayegh says that one person was taken to the hospital to be monitored “because of smoke inhalation.”
“We’re going to be monitoring the condition of that resident. That is a serious concern for us,” Sayegh said.
The American Red Cross says that 50 people from 11 families were displaced. The agency is providing emergency financial assistance for things such as temporary lodging, food and clothing.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
