Paterson firefighter faces murder charges
A Paterson firefighter is facing a murder charge in connection with the shooting death of a man earlier this week, authorities said.
Kaheem Hunt, 30, of Paterson, also faces additional charges, including conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, in the death of Juan Martinez.
Police were called Monday afternoon to Madison Street and Essex Street in Paterson for a reported shooting. Officers found Martinez, 39, at the scene suffering from at least one gunshot wound and began to render aid.
Officials said Martinez was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he died of his injuries while in surgery.
Through the course of their investigation, detectives were able to identify Hunt as one of the people responsible for Martinez’s death, authorities said.
It was unclear how many people may have been involved. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with pertinent information about the fatal shooting is asked to contact the Paterson Police Detective Bureau at 973-321-1120.
