A water main break in Passaic left residents and businesses without service this morning as crews continued work to repair a damaged 12‑inch line.
Water was seen gushing out of Passaic Street like a fountain earlier as employees from the Passaic Valley Water Commission searched for shutoff valves, according to Passaic Mayor Hector Lora.
Crews have brought in heavy equipment, and the water is no longer shooting from the ground.
Repairs are now underway, but nearby homes and businesses are expected to be without service for several hours.
There was no word yet on what caused the break.
Updates will be provided as they become available.
