Two Parsippany residents are recovering from the heartbreak of finding their cat tortured and left for dead in their backyard.
Rick Hey said he thought his cat was impaled when he found it hanging on his fence. However, Hey said when he saw the cat move its head, he knew it was tortured and left on the fence to die.
?[The cat] had lost some blood circulation and from trying to free himself, suffered quite a bit of extensive injuries to the paws,? Animal Control Officer Jennifer Suto said.
The cat later died at an animal hospital in Fairfield. Investigators said whoever is responsible for the cat?s death could face up to $1,000 in fines and six months in jail.
The Humane Society is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for tips leading to an arrest and conviction.
