Parkchester residents say they are worried about losing critical parking near their homes. They say the parking garage at 2040 East Tremont Ave. will be demolished.
Council Member Amanda Farías says the garage will be replaced with a larger one as part of a development plan for two residential towers in that space. Residents with monthly parking spots will be moved to the new garage next door before the original one is demolished.
But some residents tell News 12 that they remain skeptical. They cite overcrowded streets and rising parking costs as challenges.
They also say that the new residential towers will bring more residents with cars, which will add to the problem.
Farías says angled street parking is being explored as a solution.
