The still shaky economy has New Jersey parents cutting corners as they buy their youngsters back-to-school supplies.
According to the National Retail Federation, the average family is expected to spend about $548 on supplies this year. That's down more than 7 percent from last year.
"Color pencils, pencils, glue sticks, marble notebooks ? I'm not buying anything extra," says Edison mom Rachana Ramabadran.
