As the summer begins to wind down, parents have begun back-to-school shopping for their children.
The National Retailers Federation says that parents are set to spend a lot this year – an average of $687 per student elementary school through high school age. Parents of college students are set to spend nearly $1,000. The agency says that the numbers are up significantly from last year.
The costs mostly go toward clothing, shoes, food, school supplies and electronics. The agency says that college students will also spend a lot of furniture.
Experts say that costs can be brought down by buying supplies at discount stories and buying supplies in bulk.
