Some parents of hearing-impaired children won part of their fight Monday when the Senate Commerce Committee passed a bill that would help cover medical expenses.
A group of parents has been trying to get a state mandate passed for the last 10 years so that children with hearing impairments can live a normal life. With ?Grace?s Law,? the parents are pushing for insurance companies to pay for child hearing aids.
According to the parents, many insurance companies cover annual hearing tests, but only a few of them cover the cost of hearing aids. Grace?s Law would require private and state insurance companies to cover medically necessary expenses that come with purchasing hearing aids for children 15 years or younger.
Now that the Senate Commerce Committee passed the bill, it heads to the Senate Budget Committee for approval.
