Some parents in the Freehold Regional High School District are pushing a petition to make bus stops and walks to those stops safer for their students.

It was started by the Safarov family, who live along Tennant Road in Marlboro.

Their 15-year-old daughter is expected to trek a quarter of a mile alongside the busy two lane road which has no sidewalk or lighting.

Kirill Safarov says last year, his daughter was picked up in front of their home on Tennent Road but that was changed this school year.

“They’re saying that to reduce travel time they are trying to consolidate the stops so not to pickup kids at different locations. But the fact is my daughter is the only kid that gets picked up at that stop," said Safarov.

Safarov is hoping for a changes.

"They haven’t acknowledged the fact that this is a dangerous road. Some actually communicated as far as saying I drive on this road it looks pretty safe," he says.

The Freehold Regional High School District did respond to News 12's request for a response.

Alex Ferreira, assistant superintendent for business administration released the following statement:

"The district is actively reviewing parent feedback regarding bus stop locations, routes, and contractor reliability. While ongoing driver shortages and other operational considerations may impact scheduling and service, all routes are developed and implemented in accordance with applicable statutory guidelines. The district remains committed to carefully reviewing individual concerns. We appreciate our community’s patience as we continue to refine transportation routes and schedules to provide safe and timely transportation for every student."
