Paramus residents are itching to dive into Memorial Day weekend, as their town pool finally reopens after almost two years.
After testing positive for contaminants, the pool was shut down at the end of the summer in 2007. The silver lining in closing the pool was that Paramus was given a chance to modernize and renovate the facilities, which hadn't been done since it was built in 1967.
Work on the improvements began after the pool site passed DEP inspection. Renovations include a state of the art kiddie pool and slide, as well as a new drainage system. The pool itself will be ready for swimming this weekend. The children's facilities won't be ready until next week.
The cost to clean and renovate the pool rang in at more than $2 million. Membership fees have gone up to cover the expenditures, and it will now cost a family of four $350 to join for a year.
