Drivers in Rockland County should once again prepare for a long-term ramp closure on the Palisades Interstate Parkway. The southbound Exit 9W ramp to the New York State Thruway is expected to close on Wednesday, March 25, according to the New York State Department of Transportation.
The agency says the ramp will remain closed throughout the 2026 construction season. An exact opening date was not provided.
The closure is part of the State Route 304 bridge replacement project. Work includes removing the existing bridge deck and replacing bridge pedestals and bearings, along with other structural improvements. The PIP exit ramp runs under the Route 304 overpass.
Some local drivers told News 12 that they are not concerned about the temporary inconvenience.
One Valley Cottage resident said, "It is what it is. We'll deal with it. Not a big deal."
Another driver said, "That road is pretty rough, so I agree that we've got to sacrifice for a little bit."
A spokesperson for the New York State DOT wrote in a statement, "The department understands that the prolonged ramp closures have caused inconvenience and we appreciate the community’s patience as we undertake this important project to rehabilitate the State Route 304 bridge over the Thruway."
The spokesperson added that the bridge has needed more work than originally expected.
The same ramp was closed for several months last year due to earlier phases of the Route 304 bridge work.
