A Morris County pet boarding business is trying to reunite military families with canines that served in the military.

The Morris Animal Inn launched "Operation: War Dogs" Friday and kicked off the event with a special appearance by K-9 Sgt. Rowan, a military dog that sniffed out explosives in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sgt. Rowan was recently reunited with his handler family.

Operation: War Dogs will raise money to bring more dogs back to the United States.

"Our goal is to raise funds to bring home as many retired military war dogs as possible," said Joanne Morris, vice president of Morris Animal Inn. "They've served heroically on the battlefield and our four-legged veterans deserve to return to the homeland as well."

The fundraising campaign lasts through Sept. 7. All the money raised goes directly toward reuniting war dogs with their handlers.
