Thursday's massive corruption sting in New Jersey is only the latest chapter in the long history of the FBI's Operation Bid Rig.
Operation Bid Rig is a 10-year long investigation into political corruption in New Jersey. Thursday's arrests were the third time multiple lawmakers were rounded up as part of the investigation.
The probe's first arrests came in 2002. Asbury Park City Manager Terry Weldon and 10 others were convicted of taking bribes from developers. Three years later in 2005, three mayors and eight other politicians were hauled in. All were convicted of taking bribes or accepting free work from an undercover operative.
Everyone arrested through Operation Bid Rig has either pleaded guilty or been convicted. If that trend continues with the latest sting, close to 100 people will have been put behind bars because of the probe.
