The Bronx is buzzing! The Bombers hosted the Milwaukee Brewers for their season opener.
Yankees catcher Austin Wells made MLB history, becoming the first catcher to hit a leadoff homerun.
The energy radiated from the stadium to the street, where fans dressed in pinstripes packed in all day.
"The whole city is coming together you're just happy it's a chill in the air that's indescribable, it's buzzing," said Alexa Pagano, from Westchester.
The 2024 season ended in disappointment for fans after the Bombers lost to the Dodger's Game 5 of the World Series. Fans told News 12 they are remaining optimistic this season.
"The Yankees are my girlfriend, they never break my heart, I love them," said Robert Morelli, who has not missed an opening day in 50 years.
The start of the baseball season is also the start of a new business year for many local businesses in the area. Bars along 161st Street were jam-packed with fans from the time they opened Thursday morning.
