A non-fatal shooting Sunday night involving a New Jersey state trooper is under investigation, the Office of the New Jersey Attorney General said.
The incident began when officers stopped to help a woman walking along the shoulder of Interstate 80 in Jefferson Township. The woman said her boyfriend, Matthew Gerndt, assaulted her and then made her get out of the car.
While New Jersey state troopers were attempting to arrest Gerndt at his residence, he charged at the lead trooper, who fired his gun at Gerndt, according to the attorney general's office.
Gerndt suffered injuries not considered life-threatening. He was charged with assault and resisting arrest.
