From signage to sandbags, there is preparation for potential flooding along Ninth Street between Madison and Monroe streets in the city of Hoboken.
"I feel like we’re below sea level over here...this area does it just fills up like a bathtub," said Michele Thomas, a Hoboken resident.
The area is known to flood whenever it rains hard and fast, causing an inconvenience for many.
Ken Ferrante, the city's public safety director, says they have been busy preparing for the anticipated storms.
"Our communications has started alerting the public through Nixle, our emergency Nixle system. We test out our flood emergency gates. We did that this morning to make sure they're working...Let our public safety division handle it and I'm confident once it subsides we'll be in good shape a short time after," said Ferrante.
Barricades will begin to get put up as the streets start to flood. City officials say if you see one of them up closing road it’s a sign that there’s high water, and that means don’t drive through it.
"There's a potential that you can get stuck and when someone gets stuck, there's a danger for injury even something serious to use resources and have to use resources to get out of that area," said Ferrante.
City officials say with another storm anticipated later in the week from remnants of Hurricane Debby, residents should stay alert and be prepared for street closures due to flooded roadways.
