Police in Lakewood have confirmed an off-duty Barnegat police officer has died after suffering what authorities believe was a medical episode.

According to police, the officer was working a second job Wednesday just after 1 p.m. at a construction site in Lakewood when the medical emergency happened.

Police say he was taken to Ocean Medical Center, where he later died.

The officer has not been publicly identified, but it’s reported he was around 40 years old.

Police have not said what kind of medical emergency he suffered.
