A woman from New Jersey has been identified as one of the victims of a building collapse near Miami.
The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner Department confirms that 54-year-old Stacy Dawn Fang was killed when a seaside condominium tower collapsed in Sunrise, Florida on Thursday.
It is believed that Fang is from Monroe Township.
A family spokesperson released a statement on behalf of Fang’s son, Jonah Handler, saying, “There are no words to describe the tragic loss of our beloved Stacie. The members of the Fang and Handler family would like to express our deepest appreciation for the outpouring of sympathy, compassion and support we have received. The many heartfelt words of encouragement and love have served as a much-needed source of strength during this devastating time.”
Handler was reportedly injured in the collapse and is hospitalized.
At least three other people have also died. Officials say there are still 159 people unaccounted for, including a couple from Lakewood. Neighbors tell News 12 New Jersey that Benny and Malki Weiss were visiting Malki’s father in the building when the collapse occurred.
The couple and Malki Weiss’s father are still unaccounted for.
The cause of the collapse is still under investigation.
