Officials on Friday issued an emergency declaration for Toms River as Hurricane Lee moves north off the coast.

The announcement told residents to stay out of the water. The rip currents and huge swells threaten not only swimmers, but the beaches themselves.

Erosion and flooding are a major concern as the storm continues moving past the state.

Toms River officials say red flag warnings are in place and that anyone caught in the water will face fines or possible arrests.
