Many politicians hold two elected offices in New Jersey, but some in Highland Park are questioning the ethics of the practice. The mayor of Highland Park says he doesn?t think one person can do two jobs effectively without favoring one town over another. So, borough officials plan to pass an ordinance banning dual office holdings. If passed, Highland Park will be the first town in New Jersey to have the ordinance on the books. However, that may not matter. The Legislature may have to take the matter up as a state issue. As of now it's not clear if individual towns can make their own rules regarding dual office holdings.
