Officials identified a 27-year-old man Thursday as the victim of a late-night shooting in Asbury Park.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said Denzel Morgan-Hicks was found dead around 11 p.m. Wednesday in the driver’s seat of an SUV on the 100 block of Prospect Avenue.
The fatal shooting took place about a mile from Asbury Park High School, which canceled its annual Thanksgiving Day high school football game against Neptune.
The 90-year-old traditional game was canceled Tuesday after a threat of violence deemed credible was made against the game, which will not be rescheduled, according to Asbury Park School District’s superintendent.
Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson Charlie Webster said there appears to be no connection between Wednesday’s deadly shooting and the threats against the game.
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Detective John Leibfried of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office at 1-800-533-7443 or Detective Dillan Gourley of the Asbury Park Police Department at 732-775-2936.
