Woodbridge PIO John Hagerty says a house fire in Avenel has left one person dead.

The fire happened around 9:12 a.m. at the single family residential property at 88 S. Inman Ave.

The Avenel Fire Department, as well as the Woodbridge Police Department, responded after initial reports said the family was trapped in the building. 

Officials were able to get the family out with the exception of a 21-year-old male.  After the fire was extinguished, the male was located in the basement and pronounced deceased. 

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Arson Team and the Woodbridge Police Department are conducting the investigation.
