Faith leaders, politicians and recipients of the Nonprofit Security Grant Program gathered in Summit for a roundtable discussion on the rise of antisemitism and the importance of grants.
Sen. Cory Booker, Rep. Tom Malinowski and acting New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin joined the conversation at Temple Sinai discussing how government officials and the NSG program can support the Jewish community during times of increased crime.
News 12 spoke to Rabbi Erin Glazer, of Temple Sinai, who believes more conversations are needed to keep houses of worship safe.
"I think it’s essential that our elected officials know that the importance of being able to be safe in our houses of worship is of utmost significance for the Jewish community,” she said.
The Nonprofit Security Grant Program is a federally funded program that helps faith-based and nonprofit organizations prevent and protect themselves against violence.
The roundtable participants hope to see the NSP grant double funds over the year, especially on local levels.
