A Morris County church came under fire last week after state officials alleged that four of the church's leaders embezzled hundreds of thousands of dollars from the congregation.
Members of Randolph Christian Church attended Palm Sunday services, despite the recent investigation into senior pastors Eric and Marianne Simmons and associate pastors Phillip and Sharon DuPlessis. Officials within the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs claim the four pastors used church money to purchase a home and boat.
Former church member Tony Roman claims he and another member raised nearly $12,000 for the Dover Street Ministry, but never saw the money donated to the organization. Roman claims he asked the church leaders about the funds but kept getting different answers from each of them. Roman left the church after the alleged incident.
Current church members say they received notice of the allegations, but were assured the pastors were innocent. Pastor Eric Simmons led services Sunday for a crowd of nearly 50 members.
Eric Simmons told News 12 New Jersey that he would be available for an interview following the service, but left the church through a back door.
