Department of Transportation (DOT) officials are investigating a dangerous area of Hillside after residents? calls for increased safety. The DOT inspected a Route 22 underpass Saturday at the urging of concerned Hillside residents. Two girls from Hillside High School were attacked in January and women say the area is a constant concern. Police say the walkway is not only dark at night but it also provides plenty of places to hide. DOT officials say if inspectors determine additional lights or repairs are needed, they will be installed immediately.Police have already made an arrest in the attack on the two girls. Jeff Montgomery, of Hillside, is accused of pulling the girls over by the railroad tracks and raping them at knifepoint.
