Officials confirm that a six-alarm fire tore through a Fort
Lee five-story apartment building Saturday.
Officials say 38 apartments were damaged by the fire.
Around 100 firefighters helped from at least five departments.
Fort Lee Fire Chief Brian Drumgoole says when they arrived smoke and fire were
on the sides of the structure and quickly extended throughout the building.
Mayor Mark Sokolich says residents left and came back and found their houses
completely destroyed.
He says that a relief fund was set up by local businesses in Fort Lee that will
help those impacted by the fire.
Sokolich is also encouraging everyone affected by the fire to contact the mayor’s
office.
