A four-alarm fire in East Orange destroyed several popular businesses Friday afternoon.
Crews from at least eight different fire departments responded to help put out this fire.
Officials say that the fire started just before 12:30 p.m. at BS Sally Hair Braid, located at 225 Central Ave. They say that the fire quickly spread to other businesses on the block.
Shop owners could only watch in horror as their shops burned to the ground.
Residents say that they have come to rely on these neighborhood staples.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do now because these two shops, I go there frequently, and I don’t know how long it’s going to be before they rebuild or open back up,” says Marion Mitchell.
A neighboring three-family home had some exterior damage and was evacuated as a precaution.
One East Orange firefighter was treated for minor injuries at Clara Mass Medical Center in Belleville.
