Officials say 28 people are displaced after a fire ravaged multiple buildings in Perth Amboy Saturday afternoon.
The fire broke out on Washington Street around 1:45 p.m. The Perth Amboy Fire Department says there was heavy fire engulfing the back of 217 Washington St.
A neighbor says the fire spread to a duplex next door. Fire officials say they called in mutual aid and were able to put out the fire within a few hours.
Neighbors say the house was vacant at the time of the fire.
The Red Cross and the city's relocation officers assisted those who were displaced.
Fire officials say everyone was able to evacuate safely.
The fire is under investigation.
