Two firefighters were injured during a two-alarm fire at a vacant building in Newark on Friday, officials say.
The incident happened on Leslie Street at around 11:45 p.m.
A total of 80 firefighters responded to the fire.
Two firefighters suffered second-degree burns and have now been released from the hospital.
One side of the building collapsed before the fire was under control.
A neighbor says he’s seen people go in and out of the building since it’s been vacant.
“This house has been empty for like three years and people been roaming in and out,” says Christopher Jones. “Neighbors began chasing them out. Neighbors have been calling 911. They come, they board it up but, then they go back in there again. And this is the result. They burned it down probably.”
No civilian injuries were reported.
The fire remains under the investigation.
