Officials: 1 person injured in fire that spread to 2 Bayonne homes

One person was injured when a fire broke out in Bayonne late Monday night.
Officials say that firefighters were called to the area of Mechanic Street and Prospect Avenue for reports of a fire in the area just before 11:30 p.m.
Officials say that the fire spread to the garage area of 38 Prospect Ave. and to the side of 10 Mechanic St. Crews were able to get the fire under control just before midnight.
Officials say that residents were able to safely evacuate from the buildings. They say that one person had to be taken to the hospital to be treated for undisclosed injuries.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, but officials say that it appears to have been an accident.
Residents were allowed to return home on Tuesday.
