Official: Newark police officer injured in shootout with suspect
A Newark police officer is expected to make a full recovery after he was injured in a shootout with a suspect.
Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara says that the incident happened just after 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
O’Hara says that the officer encountered the suspect in the area of 14th Avenue and 14th Street. He was shot and sustained injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. He was taken to University Hospital for treatment and is in stable condition
Police say that the suspect has been taken into custody and that a gun had been recovered from the scene.
