An officer rescued a child who was locked inside a hot car on Monday in Island Heights.
Authorities say a mother had secured her child into a car seat and shut the door, not realizing she locked the keys inside.
Patrolman Mellott broke the window, and the child was taken out without injury.
He also made arrangements to pay for the mother’s window.
