An off-duty fire captain rescued a child from freezing water Wednesday in Teaneck.
The fire department says Christopher Connolly was walking to his daughter's school when he heard someone fall through the ice.
He then witnessed a child hanging on to an ice shelf with friends nearby attempting to pull them out.
He removed the submerged child and called 911 for assistance.
The fire department says they are proud of Connolly for his quick actions.
