A bad virus appears to have sickened 150 students and nearly a dozen teachers in Oceanport.
The school district in the Monmouth County community says it has affected about a quarter of its total student population at Wolf Hill Elementary School and Maple Place School. They had diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and fatigue, all of the classic symptoms of a typical stomach virus, minus the fever. The district says it is disinfecting desks, door knobs, bathrooms and all hard surfaces to help keep the illness from spreading.
The Monmouth County Health Department says it is awaiting lab results to see if this was a norovirus outbreak. Other local school districts are reporting some sporadic cases. As of today, 45 students were still out sick in Oceanport.
