More than 60 downed trees knocked out power to thousands of people in Ocean County during the blizzard. Crews were still working to restore electricity across the region.
News 12 New Jersey’s Jim Murdoch reported from Toms River, where traffic lights along major routes were back on this morning. Local officials urged residents to stay off the roads until noon if possible.
Dozens of line trucks were positioned behind a Kohl’s at the Toms River Plaza as crews finished an eight‑hour rest shift. JCP&L said workers were heading out for another 16‑hour shift to continue repairs.
JCP&L said 75% of customers in its service area had power restored. About 14,000 remained out, many of them in Toms River.
Video from the storm showed strong winds, whiteout conditions and one to two feet of snow. The heavy snow brought down the trees that tore through power lines.
JCP&L and county officials said water and ice were available for residents at ACME locations and most ShopRite stores.
Crews from Kalkaska County, Michigan, were helping JCP&L teams. Additional teams from Pennsylvania were arriving today, bringing the number of out‑of‑state workers above 2,500.
