The wildfire in the area of Robert J. Miller Air Park in Lacey Township has been fully contained, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.
Officials say the 831-acre fire was 100% contained as of 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The public is advised that the smell of smoke may remain for an extended period while firefighters work to “mop-up the wildfire.” Officials say smoke conditions will likely remain until significant rain falls over the fire area.
A plane that crashed Saturday night in a wooded area near the airport may be responsible for the wildfire. The identity of the pilot killed in the crash has not been confirmed. Local and federal investigators are working to see if the crash caused the fire.
The fire was first reported Sunday afternoon. No buildings were damaged, and no injuries were reported.
