The NYPD is reporting a dramatic decrease in crime throughout the city in 2014.
According to the report, major crime dropped 4.6 percent from 2013 to 2014, and major crime on the subway fell 15 percent during the same period.
Compared to 2013, 2,600 fewer robberies were reported last year, and only two homicides were reported on the city's subway system.
Mayor Bill de Blasio attributes the drop in crime to the strong leadership of NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton and the police force's strong ties with the community.
De Blasio says he hopes to equip officers with smartphones and tablets for more-advanced policing of the city this year.
