The National Weather Service confirmed early Thursday that a weak waterspout formed off Long Beach Island on Tuesday.
Forecasters from the NWS Mount Holly office said the weak waterspout formed on the bay near Brant Beach.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Gary Szatkowski said in a post on Twitter that the determination was made after reviewing storm damage.
Cellphone video of the storm shows spiraling winds forming over the Brant Beach bay.
Forecasters initially believed straight-line winds were to blame for smashed windows, tossed boats and damaged homes in the area.
No one was hurt during the storm.
